Several posts that I have read today have discussed Sam's bridesmaids dress, but I can't find pictures anywhere, what have I missed!

Kathrine, you're signed up with SOAGC aren't you? Did you get the newsletter notification the other day? I had a little article on future Samantha items in the newsletter, along with a link to Tonya's Imagestation album that had pictures from the "upcoming products" book that was shown at the Nellie premiere.

Here's a link to someone's album with a picture of the bridesmaid dress:

The first time I looked at that outfit I didn't like it. The fabric looked too Barbie for me. Probably because of the color and texture. But the style looks about right. I do love the cake though! Since I occasionally make wedding cakes, I know I'll be getting the cake set.

IMO, and I am very opinionated, the bridesmaid dress is too fussy. It looks like elements from different dresses from the period were patched together to create a "new" design. One of the most important lessons I ever learned about historic costume design is that you don't actually design anything. All the design work has actually already been done. You research and interpret source material and do your best to reproduce it. As soon as you start tweaking things, you create something new, and, therefore, technically, create a modern garment styled after a past period, rather than a period garment. The bridesmaid dress looks as if it was tweaked. It reminds me of the "Victorian Style" dresses that were popular in the 1970's rather than an actual turn of the century dress.

I also think it looks to grandmotherly, fussy, and not right. It's actually the first thing of Sam's that I have not liked. Maybe my opinion will change when I see it in the catalog or in person. That picture isn't the best of course. We'll see.

The dress does look too old for Samantha but there could be a reason. There were probably other bridesmaids closer to Cornelias age. The dress looks like something for a big high society wedding. Grandmary and the Admitals wedding would probably not be as fancy.
The diagonal seam was usually shown on everyday clothes . It had its influence in Russian styles.

Thanks, I had seen that album, but must have missed that picture. This is definately a dress I will have to see in "person" before I consider wheter or not to buy it. It really reminds me of pictures of my grandmother in party-dresses from the 70's.
